It's out first night in Cairo and driving through the city after leaving the airport felt like being stuck in LA traffic, although I think they have us beat, considering they have a population of 25 million to our paltry 8 million.

It was great to be a passenger and just get to enjoy the ride. I practically had my head hanging out the window as we drove along. We were in what's considered the New Cairo part of Cairo at the beginning of our trip. It's the newer part of Cairo. Our driver who'd met us at the airport called it the rich area of Cairo, filled with new money. It definitely had the glow and gleam of being the new kid, all shiny and new. It's a beautiful city.
The divide in architecture is clear, once you cross that invisible line into Old Cairo, there is still a beauty here as well, an aged, refined beauty, like a beautiful woman that has aged gracefully into her old age. When I think of how long some of these buildings have stood and still continue to stand I am in awe. Unfortunately, I tried to take many photos, but with it being dark and being in a moving car, they didn't turn out so great, so I won't share them. After a little over an hour we arrived at our hotel Le Meridien Pyramids Hotel & Spa, which gives an amazing view of the pyramids. Unfortunately, because it's night time, the pictures from the hotel balcony did not come out, but all I can say until I see them tomorrow in the daylight is how monstrous and otherworldly they seem, especially looming out of the darkness like something an alien mothership dropped out of the sky. They are so much bigger than I thought they would be. Well before I turn in for a bit of shut eye here is a view from our hotel room. I was doodling with my cartoon Instagram app, so I shared that one too. Also, just a small 20 second clip of some of Old Cairo, the quality isn't great since again it was night time and I'm in a moving car. Stick around gang, more to come. Good night or morning wherever you're at in the world :)
